Writing and recording Deggial

Since a lot of the material was written before I entered the band, my input on the songs were next to nothing. The only things I "created" was the improvised guitar solos on Ship of Luna, Emerald Crown and Flesh of the Gods. However, both Sami and I had SOME input on the guitar and drum-arrangements. Basically Chris had all the ideas, we made a few suggestions. We made the pre-production demos at our own studio in Stockholm, and they were recorded over a period of about three months, on and off.
Then we entered Woodhouse Studios in Hagen, Germany, and went to work. Being in the studio (at least this studio) is really like going to a regular job. You start at 10 am and work until 8 pm with a short break for lunch. No partying, no laziness, no fuckin around, only hard work, (which I like!!!).
Sami finished his drumtracks in 4 days, then Johan did bass for 2 days. Then choir and strings, then all the electric guitars, which took 4 days. I did 99% of the guitars and Christofer added bits and pieces here and there. I was glad I wasn´t Chistofer during the recording of this album. He had about ten billion things to oversee and take care of. We were in Hagen for two weeks, Chris was there for three months. That pretty much sums it up.There´s not much to say about the songs themselves, except that everyone has his own personal likes and dislikes, and what ends up on the record is not always better than the demo. For instance, the track Deggial sounded FUCKING AMAZING on the demo, but the final version on record was a disappointment to me. On the other hand, a song like Emerald Crown I felt really came to life on record, but I think this is Christofers least favourite song!!!!!! And when it comes time to play the material live, you get another set of favourites. Seven Secrets... was always a little boring on record, but live it grooves like hell! Oh well, you get used to it!
