Regarding Kristians comments on Deggial and Mexico tour
2000-09-03
"Sami finished his drumtracks in 4 days,".
This is in one way correct, but one more day was dedicated for drumsoundcheck and another day was deicated for some add-ons and experiments, so in total there was 6 days was dedicated for the drums as such.
"Then choir and strings, then all the electric guitars, which took 4 days."
A bit unclearly expressed. The electric guitars only took 4 days, not all of it together. The acoustic guitars was recorded later. The strings was recorded entierly in between, but only parts of the choir.
"Chris was there for three months."
It should be mentioned though that we only worked 6 days a week and that I took a few days off before we did the mix + that there was a day or two when the producer was ill.
"what ends up on the record is not always better than the demo."
Speaking of feelings in the performance, the demos are of course not comparable to the albums in terms of soundquality.
"Deggial sounded FUCKING AMAZING on the demo"
This one actually sounded pretty different on the demo, more noisy and aggressive. I choosed to make it a bit softer on the record. A matter of taste, but I suppose what Kristian likes more in the demo version is what people who prefer Theli before Vovin and Deggial likes about that album; more RAW ENERGY than sofisticated opera rock! =)
"On the other hand, a song like Emerald Crown I felt really came to life on record, but I think this is Christofers least favourite song!!!!!! "
Here's MY example of what Kristian said. This is the only song I'm not happy with the version of. I really like the song, but I feel I didn't manage to make it on the record as it sounded in my head when I wrote it. What I miss is a certain feeling that can't be described easily in words and isn't either possible to write in notes. So I failed (in my own opinion) to make the other musicians understand what I wanted. This is the bloody thoughest job in creating a Therion album and until someone invents a helmet that can transfer music into peoples heads, it will continue to be so.
"Seven Secrets... was always a little boring on record, but live it grooves like hell! "
I like it a lot on record, but it sure sounds even better live!
Regarding The Deggial 2000 Mexican Tour:
"We had also heard that the two shows were going to be sold out, with 1400 people on each night"
This is true, but when we got to Mexico City the concert promoter said the hall would hold 1700 persons and that amount of tickets was also what was sold for both shows. But as we had to cancel the second show and put it up one day later, many people who had been traveling from far away couldn't stay to see us play a day later, so they were given the money back for their tickets. So the second show had "only" about 1500 people in the crowd.
