I think "illegal download" is necessary in order to know what you're intending to buy. I mean, first of all, you have to approve it or not.

I could regret buying something I didn't get to know first. Well, you can tell me about online radios, but most of them you have to pay to listen too. What's the solution?

Yeah, it can be a silly excuse, but I'm with the Pirate Bay guy in this case, I don't think we'll get rid of the record companies in any way, they're necessary indeed, but they could change the way they actually work, the way they see the market, the relevance of the internet nowadays etc, and start to be more honest towards the consumers.

Mainly in third world countries.

What about books? Movies? Do you have to read/watch them first?

Do I have to repeat it? I'm talking about music. Do you know that most of the money earned by selling cds goes to the record companies instead of the artists? The musicians earns more doing shows than selling cds. At least that's what I was told.

And buying movies is another thing that... Why would I watch it again if I already know the content? lol

Em ... yes. Some bands earn more from touring and whatnot. And yes, record companies take a big portion of the CD sales. But then, the record companies also pay for rending studio and make distribution of the CDs possible, enabling the artists to release the music in the first place. In many cases, the label also makes touring possible through promotions and whatnot.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only pull you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Well, I tell you, if it wans't for the internet I wouldn't have known 80% of the bands I know now. But that did not make me just commit this so called crime they say. I still buy things from bands I really like even with the high taxes we pay for a single CD here in Brazil. Others bands just stays in my HD waiting an opportunity to pop up in my list of priorities.

I can't limit what I know due to some stupid laws, and thats the big issue. Now I'm not only referring to music, but in general.

Yeah but they could be a bit less greedy (if you meant record companies owners).

No, I meant I don't agree with you when you say "I can't limit what I know due to some stupid laws". There has to be a price to pay for culture, and knowledge. People have to work to get them, pay for them, I think it gives what you get an even more special meaning.

In part I agree with that, but the problem is that the price has to be accessible for whole society, from poor to rich, cause if not the poor will always be at a great distance regarding knowledge. I think a fair monthly contribution could be a good idea in order for these people download anything they want.

But anyway, this is a complex subject and we have strayed from this topic subject a long time ago.

They have music CDs at the library. you can just check them out and copy them. So shutting down the downloading does no good. The only thing is they don't have Therion or the music I like. They have thousands of bands but the stuff I like isn't too popular here. We had this conversation on this forum a couple years ago or something. Despite what record companies says sales aren't much lower than before downloading. Big difference- lesser known bands sell better and their big commercial bands do worse. It only hurts bands like metallica significantly and they have so much money I don't know what they can complain about. Oh I made 2 million this year instead of 3. Do you think us normal (non-rich) people care? Despite album sales bands bring in a lot of money on t-shirts, touring etc. Actually with really big fans like hardcore fans they make more money on t-shirts than albums. Let's take an album like Secret of the Runes that didn't sell as big. Yet many people really like it. So they go out and buy t-shirts and go to concerts. The money made off the album isn't limited to album sales alone.

You can make a recording one time and copy it infinitely. I think they have done a good job balancing things. It's hard to download good music anymore without paying for it. That's why I suggested to Therion to flood the web-sites with crappy "sample" mp3s like all the other bands do. I guess they don't care. Therion is like one of the only bands that doesn't do that now. If you put out enough crappy mp3s it makes it hard to find a good one. You know the "you are listening to Nightwishes new album" what the f**%$ I thought I downloaded the new album and its got this on it.

I'm fine with the voice-overs, since I'm usually checking out new bands I've never heard of before. Written reviews can be deceiving sometimes. Myspace works good too, if there are enough songs to allow a good overview. Music from bands I like, I just wait until the CD is released. It's called patience

Markus, Spotify sounds great, if you are in one of the very few countries it services.

To be on topic, yay! New Album...titile. Now we just need a release date  :-D
