Therion's new band members and situation
« on: January 05, 2011, 07:13:59 PM »
Therion's band is known to have had many changes of their members along the years, but the ideas behind the project were always so good to bring very very good results. However i think that when there's an addition of talents, that results would be great. That "great" were the Niemann brothers years, and the peak with Mats Leven incredible expression. So i don't think that the present members are not good or talentuos musicians, but the "Era" i'm talking about is another world and the difference is remarkable by fans and by the band itself probably. These guys don't have had much time to mix with the band and the songs maybe. Even if the problem it's not this, what is the answer, the new started direction within the last album? Even if the songs are part of an "older" pack even up to Deggial's years they seems so different typed songs.

This goes rather into the direction I went with my topic about Snowy.
I agree with you - yet there are many fans out there who would say the opposite and state that the band as it is now is better than ever.

yes, Snowy have done a great work with them, incredible vocals. I hope them all understand that i love Therion's music, the line up changes are good sometimes because make a difference in the style and refresh the sound but i think the triad Niemanns Leven Snowy was a peak, but their music is always special. However you're probably right, there's a million people who don't think this way and it is demonstated by the number of replies which had this post :)

The one that I miss much is Petter Karlsson. Awesome drummer, awesome composer. But on the other hand, I like more the new bassist (Nalley) than Johan.

Snowy, Lori and Katarina (the guests), must stay "forever" :)

All I can say is that I think the band right now is so good. I enjoyed them live a lot!

I know comparisons are not good, but I really like Thomas Vikstrom much more than Mats Leven, so I think this change was for good.

I'm warming up to them as well. Watching youtube the earliest shows had a lot of problems but as they kept doing shows they got better at the songs. The drums and guitar solos really improved over time, but I think some of the solos still need a little work but still are fantastic.

Listening to Sitra Ahra and listening to them live it sounds like they could have done better on the album (drums and rythem guitars at least).

The vocals though are pretty much the same- excellent from start to finish. Kat and Snowy are getting better with Therion and Lori and Thomas have been pretty much perfect live for a long time.

That plus the choice of songs I would say this tour does sound like one of the best Therion has done.

I have to say the same thing the new bass player nalle is the best therion has ever had, but the guy on tour is good but not great. I liked petter a lot too but the new drummer is starting to get pretty good playing the old songs at least. I just feel he did a mediocre job on the new album, so album-wise yeah petter was a lot better on GK than the new guy on Sitra Ahra.
I got issues

yes, comparisons are not really good , in fact mine was such an advice instead of a comparison even if it seems like that, however, maybe the band's members and Chris could read this type of discussions and beyond the words everyone of them could take something good to apply in the band. :)

in fact opinions are subjective, i just express my appreciation in those works. These days i was thinking even about The secret of the runes and , that album.. is such an incredible masterpiece, maybe too much underrated. It's great.
